Muslims began immigrating to the Windsor-Essex area in the early 20th century.
in 1960 several families bought a house on Wellington Road, which served as the first mosque in Windsor. The community quickly outgrew the space, and in 1969 the current mosque at the corner of Dominion and Northwood streets was constructed.

The community continued to expand, and an addition was built onto the original mosque building by the local architectural firm Surendra K. Bagga Architect Inc. from 1991-1993. The older section of the mosque was then used for the An-Noor School, a private Islamic school established in 1993. The school has since moved to a location on Janette Avenue. Since then, the mosque has had a series of minor additions, including a mortuary.

The mosque is built of concrete with brick cladding. A minaret is located at the northeastern corner of the building, and a gold dome sits on the new section of the mosque.
