Buster Edwards (Phil Collins) is a petty criminal from the East End of London. His long-suffering wife, June (Julie Walters), thinks of him as a lovable rogue. Buster meets with Harry (Michael Attwell), who had recently served 18 months in prison for his part in various robberies, to discuss the next big 'job' with ring-leader, Bruce Reynolds (Larry Lamb). They become part of the firm who plan to rob a Royal Mail train allegedly carrying £1 million in cash.
