Summary: When the Hale family moves to Beacon Hills, Derek witnesses the Funeral of Claudia Stilinski, keeping in his memories the young boy he saw crying by the coffin. A few years later, he discovers that the boy he saw is named Stiles, and he accidentally catches him in the same cemetery as the first time. Touched to see him cry for his mother, Derek lays a hand on his shoulder to comfort the younger one but when Stiles looks around he sees no one.
As the years pass, Stiles starts noticing Derek and starts growing a crush on him, developing into a love he cannot control. He later realizes Derek doesn't feel the same way because he's flirting with the new girl in school and decides to bury his love in the moon dust, forgetting any enclosure that could have happened between them.
After some years of the Hale house fire, Derek returns to Beacon Hills, once again finding Stiles on the cemetery leaving a flower on his mother's grave. This time is Derek who seems to be searching for attention, noticing every move he takes.
Stiles later finds out that the reason Derek came back was to show him that he has been watching over him all his life, and that his love for the younger one has been growing as he became taller with age. That he was only driving apart in fear of getting Stiles hurt with his background story of being a wolf, but the purest truth was that all he wanted was to get closer and make him the piece to finish his puzzle.
