The Power of the Force Star Wars Figures (1995-2000)
In 1995, Kenner, now a subsidiary of Hasbro, reignited the fire of Star Wars fandom with the release of the Power of the Force (POTF) action figure line. This series marked the first major return of Star Wars toys since the original line ended in 1985. Designed to capture both nostalgic collectors and a new generation of fans, these figures were an important milestone in the history of Star Wars merchandising, capitalizing on the reemergence of the Star Wars trilogy in the mid-'90s.
What set Power of the Force apart was its distinctive design choices. The figures were exaggerated, with bulked-up muscular physiques, a nod to the ‘90s trend of hyper-masculine action figures like He-Man and G.I. Joe. Iconic characters such as Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Princess Leia, and Darth Vader received this buff makeover. At the time, these design choices were somewhat polarizing among fans, but over the years, they’ve come to represent a unique period in Star Wars toy history.
The line featured a wide array of characters, including fan favorites and obscure figures. One of the highlights was the variety of different versions of Luke Skywalker, such as his Jedi Knight attire and Hoth gear, offering fans the ability to collect versions of the hero from different moments in the saga. Another standout aspect of the POTF line was the introduction of vehicles and playsets, including the Millennium Falcon and X-Wing, helping to bring the Star Wars universe to life in collectors' homes.
The line also introduced rare, sought-after variants like the Long Saber Luke or the Red Card Boba Fett, which today are highly prized by collectors. Despite being criticized at the time for the oversized sculpts, Power of the Force figures hold a beloved place in Star Wars collecting, with some even considered the genesis of modern Star Wars toy culture.
Episode I Star Wars Figures (1999)
With the release of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace in 1999, Hasbro launched a massive wave of toys to coincide with the film's premiere. The Episode I action figures were highly anticipated, marking the first Star Wars toys tied to a new movie in 16 years. These figures differed from the Power of the Force line, featuring more screen-accurate sculpts, more articulation, and a heavy focus on characters from the prequel universe.
Characters like Qui-Gon Jinn, Darth Maul, Obi-Wan Kenobi (in his young Padawan form), and the young Anakin Skywalker dominated toy aisles. Perhaps the most sought-after figure from this wave was Darth Maul, whose menacing design and double-bladed lightsaber made him an instant fan favorite. The Darth Maul figure was so popular that it frequently sold out, driving up secondary market prices for the character.
A notable feature of the Episode I figures was the inclusion of Comtech chips, which added an interactive element. Each figure came with a small chip that, when used with the Comtech Reader, would play iconic lines from the movie. Though this gimmick didn’t have a lasting impact, it added a layer of novelty to the toys at the time.
The Episode I line also included vehicles and creatures like the Naboo Starfighter, the Trade Federation Tank, and Sebulba’s Podracer, allowing kids and collectors alike to recreate the fast-paced action scenes from the movie. While the prequel movies themselves divided fans, the toy line successfully captured the excitement surrounding the return of Star Wars to theaters.
Kylo Ren Lightsaber Lamp
As the Star Wars universe expanded into the sequel trilogy with The Force Awakens in 2015, a new generation of fans was introduced to the dark and brooding villain Kylo Ren. His uniquely cross-guard lightsaber, with its crackling energy blade, became an instant visual symbol of the new trilogy. Capitalizing on the popularity of this new villain, merchandise featuring Kylo Ren flooded the market, including the impressive Kylo Ren Lightsaber Lamp.
This lamp is a striking piece of decor for any Star Wars fan’s room. The lamp is modeled after Kylo Ren’s signature red-bladed lightsaber, with all the jagged, unpredictable energy surges of the weapon captured in its design. Unlike the sleek, elegant lightsabers of Jedi Knights, Kylo’s weapon represents his inner turmoil and dark side power, and this lamp recreates that look with a soft glowing effect.
Perfect for mood lighting or as a centerpiece in a collection, the Kylo Ren Lightsaber Lamp provides ambient red light that mirrors the visual intensity of the weapon in the films. Its base is designed to mimic the lightsaber’s hilt, while the blade stands upright,
