Tommy was part of this CBS American TV special, 'New York, New York' with Gene Kelly, Woody Allen, Gower Champion and Damita Jo Freeman from 14/02/1966.

It's interesting that Tommy would later in the 1980s go onto play the same role on stage which Gene Kelly played on screen in 'Singing in the Rain.'

Tommy often cites a story in TV and radio interviews that when he was appearing in 'Half a Sixpence' on Broadway, Gene Kelly visited him in his dressing room suggesting they do a special together, and this is the result of it.
