Filling Out the SF-86: Common Security Clearance Disqualifiers

Do you want to haul freight for the Department of Defense? First, you have to receive security clearance. You can do that by filling out the SF-86. It can take hours to fill out the form, so it’s helpful to know ahead of time what may disqualify you.

Taylor will discuss the information you’ll need to supply on the form and what may disqualify you.

The information you need includes:
• Personal information
• Employment records
• Relationship information
• Foreign behavior
• Psychological and emotional health
• Drug activity
• Financial records
• Criminal activity

Once you finish filling out the form, you’ll undergo a waiting period, during which you can get your fingerprinting done. You’ll either receive clearance, interim clearance or denial. If you’re denied, you can reapply, but you should wait a year.

Do you think you have what it takes to haul DOD freight?
