Vertical misalignment of the eyes can be very debilitating. It can cause a host of symptoms that are often associated with binocular vision dysfunction (BVD) including,

-Headaches
-Nausea
-Dizziness
-Motion Sickness
-Feeling unsteady when walking or driving

There are just a few so if you have one or more of these symptoms on a regular basis it’s possible you have a vertical misalignment meaning that one of your eyes is higher than other.

Most people that have this are like this from birth but they compensate for it by tilting their head in the opposite direction of the eye that is too high.

One of the best ways to tell if you have this is to go back and look at old pictures of yourself and see if your head is always tilted to one side.

It can also happen as a result of a neurological issue or brain injury so if you have a sudden onset of symptoms and you go back and look at old pictures and you DON’T have a head tilt until recently it’s best to have imaging done to rule out any neurological causes.

This condition can sometimes be very hard to diagnose and is often missed during a routine exam. If you suspect you have it, it’s best to see a doctor that specializes in binocular vision bc they simply have more experience looking for these conditions.
