Taliban Plan Mass Surveillance Network in Afghanistan Using US "Security Map", China’s Huawei

The Taliban are planning to create a large-scale camera surveillance network for Afghan cities based on US plans. The Taliban could repurpose a plan crafted by the Americans before their 2021 pullout, an interior ministry spokesperson told Reuters. There are over 62,000 cameras in Kabul and other cities that are monitored from a central control room, according to the Taliban. The Afghan Taliban government has consulted with Chinese telecoms equipment maker Huawei about potential cooperation. Meanwhile, an Afghan delegation led by foreign minister Amir Khan Muttaqi is in Russia to attend the Moscow Format meeting.
