For decades the "Go to" model for church was programs. Have a problem, design or copy a program, and execute on the program.

The problem was - it worked but not in the most important ways. Programs failed to deliver better disciples. Programs didn't grow people closer to Christ or help them learn to listen to God or follow Jesus' lead. They may have resulted in some numbers/growth but sometimes that growth was superficial and fleeting - people take off to chase the other church with the better programs.

What can be done instead?

The better path is to establish a culture of total dependence on God and modeling for the church what it looks like to listen for God and follow His lead for the church.
