In chess, each piece moves according to specific rules:

King: Moves one square in any direction (forward, backward, left, right, or diagonally). The main goal is to protect the king from check and checkmate.

Queen: The most powerful piece, it can move any number of squares vertically, horizontally, or diagonally.

Rook: Moves any number of squares vertically or horizontally.

Bishop: Moves any number of squares diagonally.

Knight: Moves in an "L" shape: two squares in one direction (forward, backward, left, or right) and then one square to the side. It can jump over other pieces.

Pawn: Moves forward one square, but from its starting position, it can move two squares forward. Pawns capture diagonally one square forward. When a pawn reaches the opposite end of the board, it can be promoted to any other piece (usually a queen).

The main objective of the game is to checkmate the opponent's king, meaning the king is under attack (in check) and cannot escape capture.
