My client asked me to recreate a leaves setup I once did — green and yellow, with yellow as the main tone. But since foliage is seasonal, I couldn’t promise the exact same leaves. I explained I’d use whatever nature offers, maybe similar, maybe different. Thankfully, she trusted my aesthetics, and left the creativity in my hands.

So, on a rainy day, I went out searching. I had no plan — all I wanted was leaves with texture and colour. I found yellow-green leaves leaning more yellow, and then… some pink leaves caught my eye. On the street, their gradient looked so unique, I knew they’d add an interesting twist.

Back in the studio, I set a yellow backdrop and kept the leaves aside. I don’t lay them out first — instead, I’ll wrap the baby, place them on the table, and then style the leaves around depending on the composition. That way, I have flexibility to let the setup evolve naturally.

That’s the beauty of photography and creativity: it’s about adapting, experimenting, and sometimes, creating something completely new
