Let's say I receive attachments from clients in my Gmail pretty regularly, and always save them to my Google Drive. But I'm tired of having to open each email and clicking through to save it.

If I could do it automatically, I'd be able to save a lot of time. Turns out, I can do it automatically With Zapier. If you haven’t heard of Zapier yet, it’s a tool that automates your tedious, manual work, so you can handle the tasks that really require brainpower.

All I’ll need to do is connect my Gmail and Google Drive accounts.

First things first, I’ll connect my Gmail account. We keep your account information secure with bank-level encryption—we don’t take chances with your data.

My Gmail account is connected. If we want, we can select a specific mailbox or label for Zapier to monitor. If I don't pick anything here, the default is to monitor the main Gmail inbox and all labels. If I want to narrow this Zap to a specific inbox, I just click on this down caret button and I can pick from a list.

Let's grab a sample email to use and we can get to connecting Google Drive.

This gives Zapier permission to save the attachment to Google Drive.

We have some more down caret buttons to select a specific drive and folder, if we want to save these somewhere in particular.

Our attachment is prepopulated, thanks to the Zap template, but if it wasn't, I would click on this button to select it.

We’re good here so let’s continue. When I click test, we’re actually going to save the attachment to Google Drive, so keep that in mind when you test your Zaps, too; Zapier is actually making the action happen.

It's a success, so let's check out my drive…and there it is. We just connected Gmail to Google Drive.

Now, every time a new attachment comes into Gmail, this Zap will run and save it to Google Drive.

I used a Zap template to build this Zap. They have the apps and actions pre-selected to make set-up even faster. If you want to try this one, just the click the link in the description. What do you want to automate today?
