Roslyn Smith, a Bennett College alumnae, was in the planning sessions in October of 1959 for a proposed protest to integrate Greensboro, NC. She says at least two of the "A&T Four," had also attended these sessions. Smith, who was a member of the NAACP chapter on Bennett's campus, said the women were told by the college president to hold off until the spring semester when all of the students were back from break. On February 1, 1960, the "A&T Four," started the sit-ins, launching a nationwide movement that involved Black college students in an effort to desegregate the country. Smith says often, the Bennett College women are left out of the part of history that explains who was in the forefront of the planning.
