Proto-Germans descend from one of the Indo-European groups of northern Europe. Later Germanic peoples bordered the Roman Empire. During the Hun invasion they invaded the Roman Empire. The Germans made a significant contribution to the gene pool of modern Romance peoples. During colonialism, the Germanic peoples began to spread over vast expanses of the ends of the earth.
