How did the open source movement start? This documentary interviews Richard Stallman, who joined MIT's Artificial Intelligence Lab in 1971 and founded the GNU Project there. This evolved into the Free Software Foundation and spun off the "Open Source" we know today.

During this time, one of Stallman's admirers, Linus Torvalds, created a new operating system called Linux, a freely distributed software that took the market by storm and, ironically, led to the biggest IPO in history at the time (LNUX) in 1999 before losing the desktop war.

We enjoyed this because it connected all the dots for us and even covered some of Netscape's open-source launch here (from the last documentary we posted, "Code Rush").
