In the first part of this presentation, I point out that how a tool looks and how it is made is influenced by the solutions to three common problems: function, raw material, and social expectations or standards. In the second part of the presentation I list the different sorts of analyses that a lithic analyst may perform, and what information may be contributed to an archaeological project.
