MONT SAINT-MICHEL + Abbey Tour 4K Travel walk with Captions!

Hello friends! Today we are at the iconic Mont Saint-Michel in Normandy, France. We will wander around the mont and tour the Abbey.

Legend has is that the archangel Michael appeared in the bishop of Avranches dreams in 708, and instructed him to build a church on the rocky island. Throughout the years, the abbey that crowns the island has served as a monastery, barracks and prison. In 1979, the Mont and the surrounding bay was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Mont only has less than 30 permanent residents. The population swells during the day when visitors arrive in droves. Early morning or evenings are the least crowded times. There is a bridge that connects the town of Pontorson to MSM, you can either walk, bike or take the free shuttle.

Contrary to what social media suggests, the tidal water at the bay rarely reaches the walls of MSM. There are only about 20 days in a year when that happens. This is due to the silting of the bay throughout the centuries. Measures have been taken to reduce the silting of the bay and return Mont Saint Michel to it's natural islet state- including the 'barrage' and replacing the old causeway with the elevated bridge that allows water to flow through.
