This is one of the major festival in Nepal. It is celebrated by all kinds of people in Nepal even though it is originally an aryan culture. After the aryan rule, this festival has become like the national festival of Nepal. People get breaks, holidays to be with their families etc. Only the worshipping of goddess is similar to indian culture, but everything else done is pure nepali.
Relatives and friends go to each others houses to take dashain tika ( mark on their forehead),and Jamara,,( - wheat, barley or lentil sprouts ). and are also given money as gifts along with fruits and other traditional foods. Goat/Lamb is a major part of Food during this period. It is total of 15 days in nepal,,1-10 days, ( grow jamra and worship goddess Durga)..and the last 5 days ,,visiting relatives and friends and taking tika,jamara and blessings.
