Corsairs of the Spanish Main

Among the earliest of quasi-official pirates were those known by the swashbuckling name of Corsairs. Europe was almost constantly at war during the sixteenth century, but instead of fighting a traditional war, France and England provided private ships with Letters of Marque to battle the Spanish in undeclared war.
