Selvas Verdes is a painting by contemporary Spanish artist Calo Carratalá from the “Jungle” series.

In the series: ‘Jungle’, Spanish artist Calo Carratalá shares his vision of the Amazonian rainforest, which he has travelled to on numerous expeditions in Peru, Ecuador and Brazil. Calo Carratalá recreates the landscape, drawing on his personal experiences and the sensations the setting exudes. His paintings and drawings illustrate a forest that he has lived in, transcended and fully assimilated.

With each brushstroke, the air’s humidity becomes more palpable, feelings of fear or excitement are almost real in sinking into a forest so thick that it seems ready to swallow you. Without pushing it, the artist questions our relationship with nature and the ambivalent feelings it can inspire, in-between fascination and fear.
