This 2Qt ice cream making attachment works with KitchenAid 4.5QT and larger countertop mixers. The freezer bowl has the base lock and two arms with holes in various positions so that it will fit in the 4.5, 5 and 6 QT Tilt head or Bowl Lock mixers.

I tested it with a 6 QT bowl lock mixer and it fit perfectly. (Note that you may have to reverse the bowl to use the other bracket side if you have a different sized mixer.)

The manual gives lots of information about how to install and use it, but does not include any recipes for the ice cream batter, so you will need to source your own recipe.

I used a 1.5Qt recipe and it was frozen and spinning with the dasher in about 10 minutes, and I took it out at the 17 minute mark when I didn't see any more freezing action happening. [Manual says 20-30 minutes, but that is probably for a 2 Qt recipe] The ice cream was at a soft serve consistency [the manual says to store it in the freezer for a few hours to harden it up] but perfectly edible.

Cleanup was easy (hand wash with soapy water). The parts appear to be of reasonable quality and should last a good amount of time.

Overall it does exactly what it says it will and performs well. From a cost perspective, the kit costs about the same as a small countertop ice-cream maker that has a 1.5 Qt freezer bowl and it's own motor, but I'm sure the KitchenAid has more torque, so if you already have one it's reasonable to buy this kit instead of another stand alone device. [You also get an extra 0.5 qt of size...] The only downside I see is that this freezer bowl takes up a little more space in the freezer, partially because it is larger, but mostly because of the "wings" that stick out the side.
