Brandon Hernandez from San Diego Beer News joined the show to talk about all things beer, giving recommendations for what to drink this holiday season.
Beer #1: RAIDA Japanese-style Lager
Brewery: Rouleur Brewing, Carlsbad
News: Rouleur Brewing is about two things - beer and cycling. Their beer names, tasting rooms and motif bring those two passions together. The company holds bike ride events and engages the cycling community in a number of ways, and earlier this month, the San Diego Bike Coalition presented Rouleur with the Golden Gear Award for Bike Friendly Business of the Year. You can toast their achievement with this beer, an easy-drinking rice-infused lager that's perfect post-bike ride...or post-anything really.
Beer #2: Hop-Fu! West Coast IPA
Brewery: North Park Beer Co., North Park
News: Last week, NPBC, the reigning Brewery of the Year from the 2022 Great American Beer Festival opened their highly anticipated, first-ever satellite tasting room in Bankers Hill. Located at the base of the Secoya building at Fifth and Redwood, it's a 2,750-square-foot spot bringing some of North Park's classic design features to a new neighborhood. They have dual-patios and not only can you get award-winning beers like their flagship IPA you have there, but they have a kitchen pumping out smash burgers, multi-flavored wings and fries smothered in beer cheese!
Beer #3: MoMo Haze Hazy IPA
Brewery: Novo Brazil Brewing, Chula Vista
News: Novo Brazil Brewing is based in Eastlake and, over the past few years, they've opened spots in Otay Town Center, Ocean Beach and National City. They want to be the brewery locals think of when they think of the South Bay, and last month they took another step towards realizing that, opening a bar and restaurant at Imperial Beach's Bikeway Village. It's outfitted in what they call modern beach decor with a big outdoor patio and a menu of casual pub grub, including some dishes inspired by the owners' Brazilian heritage. You can get beers like this hazy IPA, but they have a brewery on-site to make small-batch beers available exclusively in IB.
Beer #4: Christmas Ale
Brewery: Kilowatt Brewing, Kearny Mesa
News: No news. It's almost Christmas and this beer has been my favorite local holiday-inspired beer of the year. Brewed with honey, cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg, this "Cleveland-style" Christmas ale is bready, hearty, slightly sweet, spicy and perfect for cooler temps, roaring fires and imbibing tree-side.
