Percussionist Eric G. Diaz is a current 9th semester Music Education major at the University of Connecticut, studying under the direction of Haruka Fujii. During his time at the University of Connecticut, he has performed in a variety of ensembles including: The University of Connecticut Wind Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, Ensemble Nova Musica, Symphonic Band, and Jazz Combos. He has performed at Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, and alongside the Boston Brass. Percussion performance has been his passion upon arriving to the University; striving to influence and exhilarate audience members and musicians into the world of percussion. In addition to performing, Eric is an advocator of education in the arts as a clinician, private educator, and instructor.
Originally from Roxbury, New Jersey, Eric began his musical career in the 10th grade. Without any formal training and learning to read music at the age of 15, he continued to immerse himself in practice and studied under the direction of percussionist Todd J. Nichols. Eric graduated from Roxbury High School where he was the recipient of the Daryl J. Bott Scholarship for Musical Excellence in 2007. While at Roxbury, Eric quickly rose to become the Principal Percussionist of the Roxbury High School Wind Symphony, and Drumline Captain of the Marching Gaels. He has instructed the Roxbury High School Drumline during summer band camps from 2007. Eric is pursuing a Master's degree in Percussion Performance in the Fall of 2012.
