On the 10th of September, Alau Dam in Northeastern Nigeria’s Borno state collapsed and a few hours after, torrential floods submerged 70% of Maiduguri, the state capital.
The floods caused extensive damage to infrastructure, crops and shelters, severely affecting livelihoods and displacing many households.
The governor, Babagana Zulum says at least 2 million residents were affected, while National emergency management agency, NEMA puts the death toll at 30.
