The BEST camping shelter on Sjælland in Denmark based on location, and it's FREE!

Under the lighthouse at Røsnæs, sits a cosy little shelter that hikers can use for free. Røsnæs is a peninsula that juts out just above the town of Kalunborg on Sjælland, Denmark. Røsnæs has one of the best hiking trails on Sjælland and this shelter is just the cherry on the cake.

To get to the shelter you can either drive all the way to the lighthouse or if you are like me, hike from Kalunborg train station along the coastal paths. We took the beach trail and it was quite a challenge with lots of big stones to walk on which crucified my ankles. But the reward is reaching the shelter, stripping off and taking a dip in the sea.

Distance: 20 km hike from Kalunborg train station to the shelter.
Facilities at the shelter: Public toilets at the lighthouse, solid shelter with a waterproof tarp to cover you at night, raised fire pit, and lots of driftwood to burn on the fire.
