Bowthrusters and sternthrusters in general make for controlled maneuvers. Most thrusters are on/off, which cause noise and jerky movements.
The VETUS BOWPRO thrusters are proportionally controlled and give you pinpoint accuracy when docking. In this video we use the DBPPJA joystick which makes maneuvering intuitive.

If you only want to use the bowthruster: push the control lever forward and to port or starboard. For sternthruster, pull on the lever. Push harder, and the thruster will increase proportionally.

Push the joystick to the left, and bow and sternthruster will work together to move the boat to the left. Rotate the joystick, and the boat rotates.
