Join us for the next installment of #PoetryGoesViral this Thursday at 7:00 p.m. online @CarolinaPoets and our YouTube channel. This week's host will be Andrew K. Clark.

Our reading this week will feature Zuri Raushannah Wilson-Seymore, Catherine Carter, and Len Lawson.

Zuri Raushannah Wilson-Seymore is an actress, yogi, on-line English Instructor, visual artist, and poetess (amongst many additional loves), debuting Swimming Lessons. It is a sweeping collection of poems that highlight the poet’s personal experiences, imagination, and social concerns. She is a 2016 honorary graduate of Southern New Hampshire University with a master’s degree in Creative Writing emphasis poetry who is overly excited about her continued specialized growth as a new and upcoming writer. South Carolina first year winner of 2018 National Poetry Recitation in Washington, DC as the appointed SC Poetry Out Loud Coordinator of the SC Art Commission 2017-2019. Her personal and professional mission is to encourage others to be the life force energy and create unity through diversity for the community by exuding love, with poetry, music, and movement. The vision of Zuri’s Parallel Worlds and Zuriality is to heal and produce through therapeutic music, and laughter with an embodiment of like-minded spirts, and souls to create life. Her poem formally titled, “Myself” (original version) now titled, “Identity” (new version) was published in Who’s Who? She is preparing to start submitting poetry for additional publication. She facilitated poetry productions from 2001-2008 through her business Zuri’s Parallel Worlds. She has also led poetry workshops under the sponsorship of the City of Columbia and C.A. Johnson High School in Columbia, SC, as well as Poetry Meets Screenwriting Workshops for the University of SC in 2015 and 2016 to give back to the community. She was inducted in two honorary societies in 2015: The National Leadership & Success Organization and the society of Sigma Tau Delta. Catherine Carter’s collections of poetry with LSU Press include The Memory of Gills, The Swamp Monster at Home, and Larvae of the Nearest Stars (2019). Her poetry has won the North Carolina Literary Review’s James Applewhite Prize, the NC Literary and Historical Society’s Roanoke-Chowan Award, Jacar Press’ chapbook contest, and Caldwell County Arts Council’s Western NC Regional Poetry Contest; it has also appeared in Best American Poetry 2009, Orion, Poetry, Ecotone, Tar River Poetry, and Ploughshares, among others. She is a professor of English at Western Carolina University.

Len Lawson is the author of Chime (Get Fresh Books, 2019) and the chapbook Before the Night Wakes You (Finishing Line Press, 2017). He is also co-editor of Hand in Hand: Poets Respond to Race (Muddy Ford Press, 2017) and The Future of Black: Afrofuturism and Black Comics Poetry (Blair Press, 2021). His poetry has been nominated for the Pushcart Prize and Best of the Net. He received the Palm Beach Poetry Festival Langston Hughes Fellowship and others including from Callaloo, Vermont Studio Center, Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, and Obsidian Foundation UK. His poetry appears in African American Review, Callaloo, Mississippi Review, Ninth Letter, Verse Daily, and internationally in the United Kingdom, Mexico, Colombia, and Belgium. Len is also a Ph.D. candidate in English Literature and Criticism at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, earning the 2020 IUP Outstanding Doctoral Student Award.
