First and foremost one need to go ECFMG registration by filling in form 183. Once the form is filled in you can appear in the usmle exam.

The first exam is usmle step 1 which is of 8 hrs with 7 block where each block is one hour and the remaining one hour have 45 min of break and 15 min of orientation.

usmle step 1 preparation would need 5-7 months and your pre-clinical knowledge would be tested in this exam. In order to clear this exam one should have strong usmle step 1 study plan. It is a pass fail exam starting from 26 jan 2022.

The second exam is usmle step 2 ck which is 9 hr long exam with 8 block of 1 hr each . The clinical knowledge is tested in this exam.

Once you clear both the exam the next step is OET : Occupation English Test which is very similar to IELTS where the reading , writing , listening and speaking skills are put to test.

After usmle step 1 , step 2 ck and OET you may register for ECFMG certification with your USMLE step 1 , step 2 result , OET , your MBBS degree and letter of good standing from your university.

Once you register yourself you may come back and practice in India , However if you want to settle in USA . you would need to fill in ERAS application and apply for NRMP Match.

In the ERAS application or ERAS CV you would need to show your professional experience , Volunteer experience , personal experience and research experience along with LOR. Once your ERAS CV is done you may apply for interview and appear for it. After you appear in multiple interviews , there comes the day of Rank Order List where the applicant and interviewer do rankings.

Once this is done there comes the match date so if you are matched you may join the program , however few programs have USMLE step 3 mandatory to be done , so you may appear for the same it is a two days exam where day 1 us for foundation subjects and day 2 is for advanced clinical knowledge.

Once all of it is done , you may follow the residency rules of US and settle in US.
