In this episode of the Magical Experiments podcast, I spoke with Doctor H of Regulus Astrology about the living pulse of astrology, the moon, and how it weaves into magical practice. What fascinated me was how deeply the Moon functions as a timekeeper and mediator of ritual intent. It isn’t just a backdrop; it’s the very connector between our workings and planetary powers. Dr. H explained how in traditional astrology, the Moon’s movement, what it separates from and what it applies to, maps past and future influences, not only in horary and electional work but also in natal life arcs.
We explored how magicians can refine their results by aligning the Moon’s applications with the planetary archetypes that mirror their ritual’s aim: Venus for love, Jupiter for expansion, Saturn for discipline, and so on.
He emphasized that while planetary days and hours are useful for beginners and for rhythm in daily practice, the Moon’s timing carries greater weight for precise outcomes. We also unpacked phases: waxing moons speed manifestation, waning moons draw things to closure, while exact new or full moons can actually cloud clarity due to combustion.
Dr. H shared insights on void-of-course moons, sidereal vs. tropical approaches, and the caution required with eclipses, where powerful and unpredictable forces, or even entirely new spirits, enter play. He grounded these ideas with stories from historical figures and his own practice, showing how astrology is not abstract but lived and embodied.
We also touched on practical magical tools: gemstone remedies tied to ruling planets, talismans created at elected moments, and the importance of knowing your “victor of the horoscope”, the ruling planet that shapes your magical current. For instance, Saturn as chart ruler colors all rituals with its demand for structure and control.
Throughout the conversation, I kept reflecting on how these astrological principles offer magicians not just correspondences, but an experimental framework: ways to test, refine, and iterate our workings in sync with celestial rhythms. What I took away, and what I want to share with you, is that working magically with astrology isn’t about dogma. It’s about discovery, rhythm, and learning to let the Moon and planets become co-conspirators in your results.
