Описание к видео Judy Garland's Final Concert - Live in Copenhagen, 1969.

Judy Garland's last concert took place on March 25, 1969, at the Falkoner Centret in Copenhagen, Denmark.

This professionally made recording showcases how Judy, less than three months before her tragic death, was still in full possession of her vocal abilities. Her voice was harsher, less round, and less rich, but still magical and pleasant to listen to.

“The twenty-nine-piece orchestra was conducted by Tony Osborne. The 1,100 seat theater was sold out, at a record 125 kroner each - about $18 (around $150 at the time of the uploading of this video). Only one other artist, Maria Callas, had been able to command that price. It was reporter in the Ekstrabladet paper of March 26, that “punctually at 4 p.m., Judy Garland began to apply her make-up for her performance,” and that after the concert finished at 10 p.m., the filming of a documentary would continue until dawn.” (Scott Schechter's 'Judy Garland: The Day-by-Day Chronicle of a Legend')

These are some local press reviews of the concert:

Politiken (Herbert Steinthal), March 27: "Judy Garland's Triumph" (Headline)" How was she then? Before Judy Garland's long-awaited first appearance in Copenhagen the air was thick with rumors that the star was no longer a star, that she had lost not only her voice but also that she could no longer even get through her program at all. And so she stood suddenly there on Falkoner Centret's enormous stage and disproved all the rumors in the world. After only a few minutes she held the entire hall in the palm of her hand... the little woman who immediately filled the air with electricity. She was slim and gracious in her red pants suit under a flowing feather-trimmed robe. The great brown eyes sparkled in the little gamin face. Chatting, while ruffling her hair with small, quick movements, relaxed and nonchalant in manner, concentrating on her show program—that is Judy Garland as we know her from her films. Enthusiasm was so great that a spectator in the back of the hall shouted at the top of his lungs—"I love you." We all agreed.

Se Og Hor (A. U.), April 4: "Enthusiasm for Judy—Tumultuous Meeting With Judy Garland At Falkoner Center—She Sang Herself To A Victory At Frederiksberg" (Headline)" Seldom have expectation and skepticism been so great as in the last week in Falkoner Centret in Frederiksberg. For the first time Judy Garland stood on a Danish stage—and already with her first song, the frail ex-film star swept away all skepticism. She more than repaid the expectations, so much so that the enthusiastic audience at the conclusion of the performance stood and rhythmically applauded the little great artist as an accompaniment to her familiar melody 'Somewhere Over The Rainbow.' Many well-known names from the worlds of theater and music enjoyed this first meeting with Miss Garland. Judy Garland was so grateful for her success that she, obviously touched, quietly asked about the possibility of another concert in wonderful Copenhagen."

Information (Pim), March 26: "Still Going Strong" (Headline) "It has not always been encouraging news that has been received of Judy Garland's health in the last few years and it was therefore comforting yesterday evening to ascertain that the unforgettable musical star of 'Easter Parade,' 'A Star Is Born,' and 'Meet Me In St. Louis' is still in fine form and full of the old vitality. Her concert in Falkoner Centret was an enormous success and there was a contagious mutual good will between performer and public. Judy Garland has all of her old register intact. This was obvious whenever she let go in star numbers such as 'The Man That Got Away or held herself to the more tranquil, such as the introduction of "Just In Time." Her talk is still characterized by a remarkable blending of a little strength and a little helplessness; of an enormous skill that, as it were, is on the verge of snapping. The professional certainty is impressive, held down to the very suitable small talk between numbers. More than a trace of exhibitionism forms a part of her nervous strain—a style of naked emotion—and accentuated somewhat tastelessly when a newly acquired husband is brought up into the spotlight, for no particular reason. But Judy Garland's shining personality and artistic vitality are so strong that one must bow and accept the painful. It was good to see her on top and herself again."
