The Sikh Regiment is considered a "monoethnic" military unit, with its soldiers exclusively drawn from the Jat Sikh community. Its officer cadre, however, is composed of Sikhs who are not from the Jat background. The regiment's training facility, known as the Sikh Regimental Centre, is presently situated in Ramgarh Cantonment, Jharkhand. Deriving inspiration from the sacred Sikh scriptures, the regiment's battle cry is "Jo Bole So Nihal, Sat Sri Akal."

The Punjab Regiment holds the distinction of being the second oldest regiment that is still active in the Indian Army, and it also tops the list of regional infantry regiments in terms of seniority. Established in 1947 as a successor to the British Indian Army's 2nd Punjab Regiment, it has a storied history of participation in numerous conflicts and military engagements. Its impressive record of service has earned the regiment several distinguished honours.
