Scott Spark 900 | The 25lb $9000 Downcountry Dream Bike

Maybe you’ve had a good year, have some extra cash laying around, and decided its time to sell off the old mountain bike and get something new. Well, if you have anything in the $2600-$15,000 range, you have enough to buy a version of the Scott Spark Downcountry Bike! The model we talked about today is technically right in the middle as far as it comes to price which is a bit crazy to believe or think about. These days you get a lot for your money but then it just gets crazy expensive fast. At the same time, the upper builds are basically professional level bikes with all the highest end goodies.

The Spark 900 comes pretty well equipped at just over 25lbs. Beautiful full carbon frame, Fox Factory suspension, wireless AXS drivetrain, Shimano XT 4-piston brakes, Twinlock Scott locking system, carbon cranks, bars and stem, carbon wheelset, DT Swiss hubs, that pretty much covers most of it.

The Scott Spark comes in 130mm of travel up front, 120mm in the back. If you want an even faster, lighter rig, you can opt for the Spark RC which drops front travel to 120mm because every gram counts! The heart of the Spark design is it’s hidden shock which keeps it away from mud and water but also forces you to use windows and doors to see and adjust things. But if you never do or don’t care, then you get to just ride the bike and not worry about it I guess! If you like levers, the Spark has loads of them! Dropper lever, lever to engage the twinlock 3-position system (descend, traction control, locked out), and a lever to release it all. They seem to work if every second counts and you like to adjust out any unnecessary bobbing in your riding. All the cables and housings go through the stem/headset instead of the frame which mechanics will hate! If you want to change the bearings in the headset, well, you’ll have to pull a bunch of cables and then bleed your rear brake afterwards! Kind of frustrating but the price you pay for no cables in the frame.

We do not sell Scott Sparks, so you’ll have to hit up your local Scott dealer, but go check them out, sweet bikes!

We are a small MTB specific bike shop in Spring, TX. If you're in the area, come check us out.
