Art and Culture: Tracing Dzongkar Choede’s monuments, religious artifacts and the monastery history

Dzongkar Choede’s monastery, the traditional home of the sacred Jowo Wati Sangpo (a self- manifested Buddha), houses numerous centuries-old Buddhist arts, monuments, paintings, and a vast array of ritual objects. Many of these were smuggled to India through Nepal after the Chinese invasion of Tibet. We sat down with the abbot of Dzongkar Choede’s monastery, Khenpo Jampa Sopa, to learn about the monuments and artifacts at the institution.

དེ་རིང་གི་གླེང་མོལ་ལས་རིམ་འདིའི་ནང་། ཧུན་སུར་རབ་རྒྱས་གླིང་གཞིས་ཆགས་ནང་རྟེན་གཞི་བྱས་པའི་རྫོང་དཀར་ཆོས་སྡེ་དགོན་པའི་གདན་རབས་དང་། སྐུ་རྟེན་གཙོ་བོ་འཕགས་མཆོག་རང་བྱོན་ཇོ་བོ་ཝ་ཏི་བཟང་པོ་གཙོས་རྩ་ཆེའི་ནང་རྟེན་ཁག་གཅིག་གི་ལོ་རྒྱུས་སྙིང་བསྡུས། དེ་བཞིན་བོད་ནང་རྒྱ་མིས་བཙན་འཛུལ་བྱས་རྗེས་ནང་རྟེན་དེ་དག་བཙན་བྱོལ་དུ་གདན་ཞུ་གནང་སྟངས་སོགས་ཀྱི་སྐོར་དགོན་པའི་མཁན་རིན་པོ་ཆེ་བྱམས་པ་བཟོད་པ་ལགས་སུ་བཅར་འདྲི་ཞུས་པའི་ལས་རིམ་ཞིག་རྒྱང་སྲིང་ཞུ་རྒྱུ་ཡིན།
