Alchemy Of Keeping A Concept Sketch Alive - Hints For The Entertainment Industry Artist - Tips # 5

Описание к видео Alchemy Of Keeping A Concept Sketch Alive - Hints For The Entertainment Industry Artist - Tips # 5

I'm still working on short development sketches. This time I'm sharing a concept drawing that, from when I put the rubber band on to when I put the pencil down, came in at 32 min. 7 sec. I am pleased that I managed to keep the drawing together, inject a story moment and create a little vignette. After all, these are some of the tasks of a concept development artist. A bit a of a happy moment.

Last week I mentioned the subject of keeping the drawing fresh and alive, practically knowing when to stop. This has been a pet peeve of mine since I started studying drawing at the university. I honestly think that this is one of the things that make an image an art piece rather than just a depiction. This gives an extra oomph to the image and can keep your audience engaged with your creation.

It is irrelevant what kind of image you are making or how. Always make sure that each of the marks, and each of the decisions you are making, has a purpose and you have conviction while you are making it. Then the image will stay alive. When you find yourself fiddling with the image, that's when you should stop. This means you can't see any problems with the image or that you don't know how to fix the problem you are facing. There's nothing wrong with that. Take a break and come back to it later on. It's absolutely ok. Maybe do some research/or practice. Titian used to paint an image three quarters of the way finished, then put it facing the wall and come back to it months later and finish it. A bit of distance will allow you to detach from your work and be able to see where the problems are.

Make sure your marks have meaning and your work will shine. This is one of the magic elements in the alchemy of making art.

I hope you're enjoying this drawing process video series. Let me know in the comments below. And, as always, thanks for showing your support by pressing these silly like and subscribe buttons. They help the channel grow and allow me to share more videos with you.

Cheers for now and let's keep creating!
