To combat these criminal acts, it is going to take a holistic approach - nonprofits, government,
law enforcement, and getting the private sector more involved. For the private sector, it
means flight attendants from airlines or staff from hotels receiving training in human trafficking
awareness, learning how to identify what human trafficking looks like. This also means people
on the front lines such as teachers, counselors and bus drivers need to know the signs, who to
call, and other next steps. Dressember’s partners even trained Lyft drivers before the
Superbowl in Miami earlier this year, as such events are huge targets for traffickers. Even more
reporting needs to be done to identify victims, administer training, and to conduct rescue
missions.

Dressember focuses on three areas to combat human trafficking and slavery. The first is
prevention to rescue the potential victims before they are trapped. Foster youth are a major
target here, so one of their programs focuses on training foster youth. The second is
intervention, where they work with law enforcement and other partner organizations to
conduct rescue missions and conduct programs in countries like India and at border control
points. One of their partners came up with technology to identify child cybersex trafficking by
scanning the web for ads for children. The results of these scans are then sent to law
enforcement to intervene and prevent the crimes. The third part is protection, where
Dressember provides job training and counseling to ensure victims aren’t drawn back into the
trafficking rings. It’s reported that 80% of trafficking victims that were placed in jobs in New
York have now lost their jobs due to COVID, putting them in desperate and vulnerable
situations. As a result, Dressember launched an emergency relief program for these survivors
to ensure their protection. Identification, intervention, and protection all have to work
together to achieve the goal of eradicating human trafficking. This issue is spread out through
the US and the world, includes children and adults and does not discriminate.
