April 1912 - Titanic has sunk and RMS Carpathia is en route to New York carrying the few survivors. What happens next defied belief; U.S Senator Alden Smith pounces, sensing an opportunity; he holds British survivors in place to hold an inquiry, so hastily convened it is set up in a tiny hotel room. This is one of the more bizarre aspects of the Titanic story; the first U.S inquiry which saw Titanic's crew grilled with such insightful questions as "from what is an iceberg made of?" among many others. What did the inquiry actually achieve? Was it a force for good - or just a political opportunity? Today we'll find out!
