This is how to treat a prolapsed eyeball - Episode 21

Ellie was rushed to us because her eyeball proptosed while playing. Our team immediately took Ellie for a corrective surgery, which required to reposition the eyeball back into the eye socket and stitch the eyelids shut temporarily to hold it in place.

Proptosis is a condition in dogs where there is a displacement of the eyeball out of the eye socket, which can result in severe pain and even loss of vision. Brachycephalic breeds like Bulldogs, Boxers, Pekingese, Pugs, Lhasa Apsos, Shih Tzus, etc. are highly susceptible for this condition. Timely surgery to replace the globe back in the socket is the best solution.
Alternatively a prophylactic medial canthoplasty surgery to reduce the opening of the eyelids is a good way to prevent this from happening.
