Title: Carbon, Energy and Entropy Dynamics of US Agro-Ecosystems

Speaker: Susanne Wiesner, ORISE Postdoctoral Fellow, USDA Dairy Forage Research Center, Madison

Abstract: To date approximately 85% of the ice-free land on Earth has been anthropogenically modified to some degree. Heavily managed systems, like agroecosystems, are often less resilient to changes in climate and accompanying weather extremes, resulting in profit losses and soil degradation, especially in agricultural systems relying on monocultures and annual crops. This talk focuses on carbon and energy dynamics in three different agroecosystems to explore the feasibility of increasing agricultural sustainability.
