Here now at Jim Mills Banjo Inc.....An Unaltered 1930's....Original 5 String....Pre War Gibson RB-11 Banjo....featuring its original factory friction 5th peg....Factory original small gauge frets.....and both bone nuts....This great sounding old banjo still features its original 1/4 inch rolled brass...."Tone Hoop".... and has no heavy cast "Tone Ring" at all.....it therefore weighs a good 3 pounds less than a standard Mastertone type banjo!!!! ....
The Pre War Gibson RB-11 has its own special place in Bluegrass History.....as it was the first model of Gibson Banjo ever owned by none other than Mr. Earl Scruggs.....and was used by Scruggs on Sept. 16th, 1946...to make the first recordings of what we know today as....." Bluegrass Music".....while part of the band...."Bill Monroe and the Bluegrass Boy's"....the seminal and foundational Bluegrass Band.
