Enlightenment is a process, not an event that takes place at a certain point in time. That process has two phases. The first is preparation, gaining the qualities needed (adhikaritva) to finally discover your true nature (atma jnana). Even though that discovery takes place in a moment, the presence of habitual identification with your body and mind (deha vasana) persists. Deha vasana is an obstacle to complete enlightenment that is removed by a process of assimilation through the practice of nididhyasana, Vedantic contemplation.

Presented in Saylorsburg, PA on August 17, 2024 at Arsha Vidya Gurukulam's 38th Anniversary Celebration.

Swami Tadatmananda is a traditionally-trained teacher of Advaita Vedanta, meditation, and Sanskrit. For more information, please see: https://www.arshabodha.org/
