A DIY auto mechanic describes must-have tips for a Transmission Drain, Refill & Mini Flush on a 2014-2019 Toyota Highlanders. Replacing the fluid on a “sealed” Toyota transmission “by the numbers”. This video will demonstrate the process using a Toyota Highlander 2015 3.5-liter vehicle, but these techniques may be applied to other vehicles without transmission dipsticks. Common symptoms of old and dirty transmission fluid are rough shifting, tachometer readings near or above
2,000 RPMs at constant speeds between 45 and 60 MPH, and Eco Mode disengaging during normal acceleration.
Supply list:
1. 2ea. 128 oz./4-quart containers of ATF World Standard (WS) or equivalent transmission fluid.
2. 10’ length of 3/8” I.D. clear hose cut into two equal lengths
3. 5-quart measuring bucket
4. Gloves
5. Clear or white plastic sheeting to cover the floor and track fluid loss.
6. Large empty oil pan
7 . 2-3 old or new 1 -gallon jugs
Special Tools:
1. Set of Hex wrenches
2. 15/16” socket
3. 1/2 inch racket
4. Funnel that fits clear tubing

The basis of this method uses simple addition and subtraction to drain, flush and refill your transmission “By the Numbers”. Tracking and measuring fluid are the keys to this method. It is assumed that the existing fluid level is correct.
