FOSA webinar Retrofitting Existing Pipelines for Fiber Optic Monitoring - Hifi

Описание к видео FOSA webinar Retrofitting Existing Pipelines for Fiber Optic Monitoring - Hifi

Distributed fiber optic sensing (DFOS) such as Hifi’s high fidelity distributed sensing (HDS™) has become a reliable method of preventative leak detection, ensuring pipeline integrity and delivering value added services such as pig detection/tracking and flow monitoring. A number of practical challenges such as the high risk and cost prohibitive nature of daylighting buried pipelines have resulted in the deployment of this technology being primarily limited to new pipeline projects. With 2.5 million miles for energy pipelines in the United States alone, a key consideration is how to add additional safety and monitoring to these existing aging assets. Municipal encroachment is occurring more often as cities and towns expand into previously rural areas and existing pipeline rights-of-way, raising integrity risks for these pipelines. Hifi’s HDS is an excellent DFOS complement to conventional pipeline monitoring approaches. Retrofitting DFOS to existing pipelines can potentially extend the lifetime of those pipelines and is much less costly than retiring/rebuilding them. Hifi's Steven Koles will present external and internal deployment as viable methods of retrofitting existing pipelines.

Steven Koles, President & CEO of Hifi, has over 25 years of operational and executive experience in technology companies. He has been involved as an executive and corporate director with a number of organizations. From 2006 to 2012, Mr. Koles was President and CEO of Hemisphere GPS. Steven has also served in executive management positions with Steeper Energy, AOL/Time Warner Canada, Group Telecom, and TELUS Corporation. Steven is a graduate from the Faculty of Business at the University of Alberta, and the Executive Management Program at the University of Western Ontario’s Richard Ivey School of Business. Steven has also received his ICD designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors through the University of Toronto and University of Calgary. Steven is a member of the FOSA Board of Directors.
