How to Become a Pilot?!🧑🏽✈️🛩
Part 4: ATPL subjects
If you do the Integrated ATPL (Airline Transport Pilot Licence) course, you will start the course with ATPL theory classes. 📚
You will have 14 subjects for which you will have to do 14 official exams. 📝
Air Law: about rules of the air, Air Traffic Control (ATC) procedures and everything you legally need to know about aviation. ⚖️
Aircraft General Knowledge: about the Airframe, Systems such as pneumatic and hydraulic, Electrics and Power plant (Engines). 🛠
Instrumentation: about basic and advanced flight instruments such as altimeters, air speed indicators, Inertial Navigation Systems and the Auto pilot. 🧭
Mass & Balance: about the calculation of correct loading of the aircraft with regards to cargo, passengers, luggage and fuel. 🏗
Performance: about the airplane’s performance. This has to do with power settings, flap settings, runway conditions and prevailing wind. 🛬
Flight Planning: about how to plan a flight, such as filing a flight plan and calculating how much fuel you will need for a specific route. 🗺
Human Performance & Limitations: about what high altitude does to your body. It includes basic knowledge about the human body, but also visual illusions in flight, human error risk and Crew Resource Management (CRM). 🩺
Meteorology: about the atmosphere, about altimetry, wind, thermodynamics, clouds, fog, precipitation, fronts, pressure systems and climatology. ⛈
General Navigation: about how to navigate using different types of charts, about magnetism and compasses and why airplanes don’t fly in straight lines across the globe! 🌍
Radio Navigation: about navigating in flight using all radio aids (VOR, DME, NDB, ILS, GPS). 📡
Operational Procedures: about rules in aviation and standard operational procedures. 📋
Principles of Flight: About aerodynamics, stability, propellers and flight controls! 🌀
Communications VFR and IFR: How to communicate with the tower, standard phraseology in normal and abnormal situations. 📞
Usually the theory part takes 10-12 months. It’s lot to study, but after passing all exams, you get to fly a real airplane! ✈️
