Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra perform the Saskatoon Variation of The [uncertain] Four Seasons in Saskatoon, Canada.
AKQA and Jung von Matt, in partnership with composer Hugh Crosthwaite and Monash University's Climate Change Communication Research Hub used climate data to recompose Vivaldi's 'The Four Seasons.' One of the most loved classical pieces of music, Vivaldi's 'Four Seasons' was written three centuries ago and is an endlessly inventive depiction of each season, influenced by the rhythms of the year.
To portray a future where the world has failed to act decisively on global warming, The [uncertain] Four Seasons aims to place pressure on world leaders to act decisively at the United Nations Climate Change Conference COP26.
The new compositions are a call for global leaders to commit to the Leaders Pledge for Nature ahead of the conference in November 2021. Building upon the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra's 2019 performance in Hamburg, which fused Vivaldi's music with historical weather data, The first variation of The [uncertain] Four Seasons was performed by the Sydney Symphony Orchestra at the 2021 Sydney Festival on January 12th.
The [uncertain] Four Seasons is the output of a musical design system that combines music theory with computer modelling to algorithmically generate countless local variations of Vivaldi's original 1725 composition. The algorithm alters the musical score to account for predicted changes in rainfall, biodiversity, sea-level rise, and extreme weather events as laid out in the IPCC's reports.

0:00 Introduction
6:16 Opening Solo
7:51 Springtime is upon us.
8:21 The birds celebrate her return with festive song,
9:03 and murmuring streams are softly caressed by the breezes.
11:21 Thunderstorms, those heralds of Spring, roar, casting their dark mantle over heaven,
12:33 Then they die away to silence, and the birds take up their charming songs once more.
13:33 On the flower-strewn meadow, with leafy branches rustling overhead, the goat-herd sleeps, his faithful dog beside him.
16:12 Led by the festive sound of rustic bagpipes, nymphs and shepherds lightly dance beneath the brilliant canopy of spring.
22:36 Beneath the blazing sun's relentless heat men and flocks are sweltering, pines are scorched.
24:05 We hear the cuckoo's voice; then sweet songs of the turtle dove and finch are heard.
25:13 Soft breezes stir the air….but a threatening north wind sweeps them suddenly aside. The shepherd trembles, fearful of a violent storm and what may lie ahead.
29:05 His limbs are now awakened from their repose by fear of lightning's flash and thunder's roar, as gnats and flies buzz furiously around.
30:51 Alas, his worst fears were justified, as the heavens roar and great hailstones beat down upon the proudly standing corn.
36:33 The peasant celebrates with song and dance the harvest safely gathered in. The cup of Bacchus flows freely, and many find their relief in deep slumber.
40:56 The singing and the dancing die away as cooling breezes fan the pleasant air, inviting all to sleep without a care.
44:10The hunters emerge at dawn, ready for the chase, with horns and dogs and cries. Their quarry flees while they give chase.Terrified and wounded, the prey struggles on, but, harried, dies.
50:16 Shivering, frozen mid the frosty snow in biting, stinging winds; running to and fro to stamp one's icy feet, teeth chattering in the bitter chill.
53:31 To rest contentedly beside the hearth, while those outside are drenched by pouring rain.
55:06 We tread the icy path slowly and cautiously, for fear of tripping and falling. Then turn abruptly, slip, crash on the ground and, rising, hasten on across the ice lest it cracks up.
58:01 We feel the chill north winds coarse through the home despite the locked and bolted doors.
58:20 This is winter, which nonetheless brings its own delights.
