🎵 Why we started our FANKLUB

Hi, we’re Jan and Jannike from we are ALVA.
Being musicians is our greatest joy but there’s one side of it that really isn’t fun: the financial reality behind it.

Unfortunately, it has become almost impossible to make a living from music.
You might think that by streaming our songs, you’re helping us earn a small income but sadly, it doesn’t really work that way anymore.

To give you an idea:
Our debut album costs €18 at the merch table.
To make the same amount through streaming, the songs would need to be played 6,400 times. That’s the whole album listened to around 800 times.
That’s not normal and above all, it’s not fair.

It’s completely out of proportion to what we invest when we create an album: apart from the time and creativity we put into it it, we put an incredible amount of money into recording, mixing, mastering, artwork, videos, and promotion. Long before we ever earn a single euro back.

The two main income sources for artists today are merch sales and live shows.
But as a small and still unknown band, we have little room to negotiate fair fees. We’re often just happy if we can break even.
At the same time, we have ongoing costs: rehearsal space, studio rent, and - believe it or not - paying social media platforms so that our posts actually reach our followers.

And when we want to go on tour with the whole band, all five of us, it becomes really expensive.
Right now, we depend entirely on grants and funding to make touring possible at all.
Without support, there’s no tour.

That’s why we decided to take things into our own hands and create our FANKLUB.

So… what is FANKLUB?
It’s the most direct connection between you and us: no label, no streaming platform, no algorithm.

Membership starts at €1.99 per month (or more if you’d like to support us further 💛).
Your support helps us keep going, especially during the times when we’re writing and producing new songs and can’t play live shows + sell merch at concerts.

In return, you’ll get:

FANKLUB is our little safe space: a musical family where we can share ideas, stay connected, and grow together without depending on the crazy structures of today’s music industry.
