It's that time of year again, allbeit a little later than usual, with Steam Dreams kicking off their fifth year of their 'Sunset Steam Express' programme, alongside a daytrip 'Garden of England' circular taking place earlier in the day.

Running a day before the summer solstice, it would prove to be a perfect evening to capture the train through the Surrey countryside. 46100 Royal Scot would take charge of the first run of the year. Having not been able to see the Scot through the Surrey Hills previously, this would certainly be a treat.

Beginning at Egham, in the field just after the station, we firstly witness the Northern Belle passing, on it's own excursion from Ascot to Manchester Victoria, having taken passengers to Ladies Day at Ascot racecourse. Around 15 minutes later, Royal Scot is seen passing in the opposite direction, the two charters having passed each other near Ashford.

Now onto the main event, captured in the Surrey Hills at Albury Heath on a glorious summer evening, Royal Scot is seen powering her 13 coach load up Gomshall bank, making a fine soundtrack in the process with the Class 47 on the rear doing no more than taking it's own weight, making a great start to the season, although it'll be a hard one to beat both performance and weather wise with the nights getting darker in the coming weeks.
