2011 Women’s Recognition Award Winners

Thirteen to be honored at 25th Annual Women’s Recognition Awards Ceremony on March 22

Farmingville, NY – Supervisor Mark Lesko and Deputy Supervisor/Councilwoman Kathleen Walsh have announced the thirteen women chosen to receive the 2011 Women’s Recognition Award at the 25th Annual Women’s Recognition Night on March 22 at 6:30pm at Town Hall. The event, which is open to the public, is sponsored by the Town’s Office of Women’s Services. The women chosen have demonstrated excellence in their endeavors in a variety of areas. Each was nominated by a member of the community and must either live or work in the Town of Brookhaven in order to qualify. Nominations were considered by members of the Town of Brookhaven’s Women’s Advisory Board and selected based on resumes and letters of recommendation.

“All the award-winners share a common goal of making Brookhaven a better place for so many women and their families,” said Supervisor Lesko. “To be recognized by our Women’s Services division is an honor that they should be especially proud of and I thank each and every one of them for their exemplary service. Their contributions to the community in both time and talent make such a positive impact and they are a true inspiration to women throughout the Town.”

“I congratulate those who have been chosen for recognition and thank them for their dedication and service to women and families in the Brookhaven community,” said Deputy Supervisor/Councilwoman Kathleen Walsh who serves as Town Board liaison to the Division of Women’s Services. “They make such a great effort and sacrifice their own time with their families to improve the quality of life for many people and truly deserve to be recognized.”

The 2011 Women’s Recognition Award winners are as follows:

• Business: Teresa Ward, owner of Teresa’s Family Cleaning in Rocky Point. Resident of Rocky Point.

• Community Service Volunteer: Janet Godfrey, founder of Operation Veronica, a non-profit organization that provides hand-made items and other essentials to our soldiers oversees. Resident of Wading River.

• Community Service Professional: Darlene M. Jyringi, M.P.S., Director for the Alzheimer’s Disease Assistance Center at Stony Brook Medical Center. Resident of Stony Brook.

• Design: Paula M. Murphy, Chairperson of the Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce Beautification Committee, responsible for enhancing and planning all the plantings in the Village of Patchogue. Resident of Patchogue.

• Education: Jeannine LaPrarie, Longwood Middle School, 6th grade teacher. Resident of Rocky Point.

• Government: Donna Napoli, Assistant Director, Town of Brookhaven Youth Bureau. Resident of Patchogue.

• Healthcare Provider: Janet Stevens, Critical Care Nurse at Good Samaritan Hospital. Resident of Manorville.

• Law: Emily A. Constant, Chief Assistant District Attorney for the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office. Resident of Port Jefferson.

• Law Enforcement: Janine Musmacker, Police Officer, Suffolk County Police Department / 5th Precinct. Resident of Patchogue.

• Medicine: Allison Joan McLarty, MD, Cardiac Surgeon at Stony Brook University Medical Center. Resident of East Setauket.

• Science: Nelly Alia-Klein, Ph.D., Associate Scientist at Brookhaven National Lab. Resident of Rocky Point.

• Sports: Kristen M. Hutchinson, Gymnastics Coach at Gold Medal Gym. Resident of Selden.

• Visual & Performing Arts: Lori Anne De Iulio Casdia, Executive Director, Star Awards. The mission of the Star Awards is to recognize and celebrate talented theatre students across Brookhaven Town. Resident of Mt. Sinai.
