We all know the white house is expanding the controversial 2017 travel ban to cover 6 new countries – which are mostly African and mostly Black African Muslims. You may have missed my piece on Nigerians but I will tell you more about the amazing accomplishments of Nigerians in this country.

The January 31 executive order added Nigeria, Myanmar, Eritrea, Kyrgyzstan, Sudan, and Tanzania to Trump’s list of things he fears the most – that would be people of color. You should know that Nigeria and Sudan each hold majority-Muslim populations, while Eritrea and Tanzania have sizable Muslim communities. Kyrgyzstan, a majority-Muslim country in Asia, is also on the list.

The United States is suspending immigrant visas for people from Nigeria, Eritrea, Kyrgyzstan, and Myanmar. Immigrant visas are given to people seeking to live in the U.S. permanently. In addition, people from Sudan and Tanzania will no longer be issued diversity visas A diversity visa is for travelers from countries with historically low immigration rates to the U.S….so why are they a threat?

In 2018 Trump referred to several African nations as “shithole countries” during an immigration meeting at the White House. And a year before that Trump said Nigerian visitors would never “go back to their huts”. Huts?

Nigeria, the most populated country in Africa with a total population of 190 million people. It is also the U.S.’s second-largest trading partner on the continent. In 2018, Nigerians were issued 7,922 immigrant visas, making it the second-highest issuance compared to the other African nations.

At HBCU Howard University in Washington DC, over in the pharmacy program: 43 of the 96 graduating Doctor of Pharmacy candidates were Nigerians. In addition of the 27 awards presented for excellence, 16 went to Nigerians. Never before at Howard University or any University in the United States has this happened. President Obama gave the commencement speech.

According to the United Census Bureau, 4 percent of Nigerians hold the Ph.D. degree compared to 1% of the general US population. 17% of Nigerians hold a master's degree and 37% have a bachelor's degree.

And, a minimum of four percent of Nigerian-Americans are also Ph.D holders. This is at least three times higher than any other ethnic group in the United States of America.

In 2018, Nigerians were issued 7,922 immigrant visas, making it the second-highest issuance compared to the other African nations.

I’ll begin a new series examining the accomplishments of Nigerians and it will upload on Sundays.

Finally, a 2019 analysis of State Department data by the Brennan Center for Justice shows that more than 42,000 people have been barred from entering the United States as a result of the travel ban. The number of Muslim refugees admitted into the country between 2016 and 2018 shrank by 91%.

Meanwhile, in Somalia, another Trump banned country…. the American government continues to carry out airstrikes…supposedly to fight terrorism…so its destroying the country while preventing those who wish to seek safety….from doing it in the United States. God don’t like ugly….just ask Rush Limbaugh and I don’t wish him any harm but he sure did do a lot of damage to people of color.
