Welcome to Day 2 of the 21-Day Gluten-Free and Casein-Free (GFCF) Challenge!
Today’s session focuses on the gut-brain connection and its importance in supporting children with autism.
1. *The Gut-Brain Link:*
The gut and brain communicate bidirectionally via the **vagus nerve**.
Gut issues (bloating, constipation, diarrhea) often impact mood, focus, and energy.
Many children with autism experience **gastrointestinal (GI) problems**—91% according to one study.
2. *Observing Stool as a Health Indicator:*
The *Bristol Stool Chart* helps assess gut health.
The goal: *Type 4 stool daily* (smooth, well-formed).
Parents should *track their child’s stool* over 21 days to monitor progress.
3. *Dietary Focus for Today: Removing Dairy (Casein-Free Diet)*
*Casein (milk protein)* is found in cow, goat, sheep, and buffalo milk.
Many children unknowingly react to dairy, causing mucus build-up, constipation, ear infections, asthma, and sleep issues.
Some children crave dairy, but it can contribute to chronic health problems.
Removing dairy for *at least two weeks* can bring *visible improvements* (e.g., clearer sinuses, better sleep, fewer infections).
4. *Action Steps:*
*Download the Bristol Stool Chart* and start tracking stool consistency in the community.
*Remove dairy products* (milk, yogurt, cheese, kefir, etc.).
*Monitor and record changes* in digestion, mood, and energy.
Use *dairy-free substitutes* like coconut yogurt or plant-based alternatives.
*Final Thought:*
Healing starts in the gut. By improving digestion, we can enhance brain function and overall well-being in children with autism.
