More Americans are opting for a different kind of buzz to go with food and family this Thanksgiving. As state regulations around cannabis have loosened, it’s been spreading into everything—including holiday dinner. People are sampling infused seltzers, stuffing, racks of lamb and of course turkey and gravy.

Federal law still classifies cannabis as an illegal substance, in the same category as heroin or LSD. But just under half of US states have legalized the drug for recreational use, opening the door for an industry now valued at more than $30 billion. As for the day before Thanksgiving, it’s become the second-biggest of the year for legal cannabis sales.
